Cadbury has recently released its new commercial a mix of real and animated character to attract the children for demanding Cadbury's Easter chocolates this year.
The TV commercial that has grown from the Joyville tree features an animated Cadbury easter bunny on a BMX, who scatters abundances of Easter eggs in a family's garden. Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney has made this commercial. Fin Design + Effects created the photorealistic 3D bunny, that seems to have been captured by the camera.
GoodOil director, Michael Spiccia, worked closely with CG supervisor and 3D lead Stuart White and VFX supervisor and compositing lead, Nick Ponzoni, from the outset to infuse the TVC with both its irresistibly magical charm and sense of reality. This was a labour of love. Everyone professes passion for every job, when asked afterwards. The team on this commercial was led by Spiccia’s determination to create the feature film characteristics that would give this commercial the most compelling appeal.
Colour tone and the appearance of the bunny’s fur were the first details to be worked out. An efficient pipeline was then set up for the fur’s simulation and rendering. After many hours of R&D, White decided to use the software Yeti, by Peregrine Labs to produce the fur’s texture, combined with the rendering software V-Ray, to give him the most credible results.
The motion or animation of the bunny was also hugely important to all the creators. The quest was to correctly balance the bunny’s anthropomorphic movement and stay true to the movements of a real bunny. “There was a combination of elements on this job that were both exciting and challenging. The use of anamorphic lenses, the fur look and feel and also the fact that the bunny was wearing clothes, all added to the complexity of the project,” White recounted.
